Safety measures in winter 2020/21

The winter season in the Gitschberg Jochtal Ski & Holiday Area will officially kick off on 5 December 2020.
The strengths that characterise our holiday area include the vast expanses stretching between the Rodenecker-Lüsner Alp and the Fane Alp in Vals, the many diverse hiking routes through the snowscape, and an extensive ski area that offers winter sports fans plenty of space and freedom. A strict safety plan is being implemented everywhere in the holiday area and especially on the ski slopes, in order to protect staff and guests alike and allow for a carefree outdoor experience that boosts health and suits every taste.

  • Maintain 1-metre social distancing
  • Nose and mouth protection is mandatory in the following places:
o on ski buses and at the bus stops
o at lift pass sales points
o in the entrance area to lift facilities
    o inside the lift cabins
o in restaurants and huts (except when seated at the table)
o inside shops, ski schools, ski hire shops and ski depots
  • Wash and sanitise hands regularly
  • Only leave your accommodation if you are healthy
Lift facilities
Visitors to the Gitschberg Jochtal ski area can look forward to 55 kilometres of pistes that are groomed to perfection every day. The 15 modern lifts that serve the ski area are sanitised regularly to ensure safe transportation.
Standard ski equipment, including gloves, helmet, skis and balaclava, meets safety requirements and offers excellent personal protection.
  • Compliance with safety measures, inspections and updates
  • Social distancing (nose and mouth protection when the 1-metre minimum distance cannot be maintained)
  • Nose and mouth protection mandatory for passengers inside lift cabins
  • Cabin windows left open during transportation for additional ventilation
  • Regular sanitisation of lift cabins
  • Closing of chair lift covers not permitted during transportation
  • Online purchase of lift passes, to be picked up at the designated boxes
Ski schools
Our two excellent ski schools have developed their own anti-Covid safety plan. Special attention is given to children and beginners, so that everyone can learn to ski in a safe, carefree setting.
  • All staff are trained regarding Covid-19 and relevant guidelines; ski instructors undergo daily health checks
  • Group size in compliance with legislation (may be adjusted during the season)
  • For each individual ski instructor, a contact list is compiled – to be deleted 2 weeks after the course
  • Ski instructors are tested regularly by the South Tyrolean Health Service
  • Online booking for sports courses
  • Award ceremonies are held in compliance with Covid-19 guidelines (no joint award ceremonies)
  • Refund of deposit/course fee for non-attendance due to positive Covid-19 tests
  • Reimbursement of pre-paid classes in case of illness, subject to presentation of a medical certificate
Hire service and depot
Safety regulations also apply to the various ski hire shops in our holiday area, which nevertheless continue to offer excellent service with the latest in ski equipment and competent advice.
  • Observance of social distancing and density limits
  • Nose and mouth protection is mandatory for staff and customers
  • Staff record every hire
